The apartment is located in a multi-family residential building in the center of Sofia, built in 1969. The dwelling was originally designed as a two-bedroom apartment, organized around three rooms with similar dimensions of 15 sq.m. The new solution combines the kitchen and living room into one of the three zones, allowing for the possibility of creating a second bedroom in the central room.
The interior concept revolves around carefully integrating new elements into the existing environment while preserving its character. The end result is a space that is not decoratively overloaded but genuinely, functionally, and pragmatically organized.
In the main area, the kitchen is situated where the terrace used to be. The countertop is positioned in front of the windows, with niches along the periphery hiding the appliances. The entire zone, including the furniture, flooring, and ceiling, is designed in a single shade.
Curtain, concealed in a recess in the suspended ceiling, provides privacy and shields against the southern sun. The dropped partition also creates space for evening home cinema projections. The living area is marked by pale pink-toned walls, ceiling, and beech parquet flooring, with the white library acting as an accent along the inner wall.
The building’s original mosaics, friezes, and the natural parquet from the previous interior have been preserved. The middle room serves several scenarios of use. A corner with a wooden podium covered in carpet serves as a space for reading or yoga, under which a foldable mattress can be stored for sleeping.
The back of the bedroom features decorative cement plaster and furniture fronts in a washed pink tone, connecting with the balcony and the corresponding color of the building’s facade.
The bathroom walls are entirely covered in large-format white granite tiles, matching the color of the partition in the storage niche. Black matte fixtures and accessories serve as accents in the bathroom, while the yellow cabinet and terrazzo flooring facilitate the transition to the corridor, symbolizing the passage from the new to the authentic presence.
